Just heard on sirius radio that there is to be a movie about Ian Curtis' life and that Joy Division (or what remains of it as New Order) is reforming to record new music for the film's soundtrack. Wow, I actually learn more listening to Left of Center than Pop Rocks, since they rarely speak. Just the other day I heard of the bright eyes quote "singing is bad for the voice but good for the heart," a quote that I happen to like.
Despite the various incarnations, music is universal because its rhythm appeals to the physical manifestations of our human spirit, namely breaths and heartbeats.

I was on a music cruise out of Miami a couple of weeks ago and one of the bands on the trip was Ozomatli (a big multi-cultural LA band) and one of the guys in the band was wearing a Joy Division t-shirt.
I thought that was pretty cool...
Ozomatli is definitely a noteworthy band, I like that track "Cut Chemist Suite" they did with Jurassic 5 a few years back. I haven't seen them live yet, unfortunately.
If you like Ozomatli, you might like Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra. They're from Brooklyn and they've got a powerful sound, much like Ozomatli has their own powerful sound.
